LEFT BANK UH-1H
(69-15684) ARDF helicopter shot down by ground fire on 1
March 1971 near Dambe, Cambodia at WU 955 265 (This location is
approximately 15 miles inside Cambodia).
He was my only friend in Nam. I remember him saying, " I do not want to
fly in choppers anymore." The job was voluntarily I think. My
recollection is not to clear because I was a M.P. with the ASA.
I told him " quit then ,do not go up anymore." Well a few days later he
went up an never returned. I am sure he would have never went up again
but had it not been for peer pressure to behave like a man. It could
have been the macho of wearing a fire resistant uniform. I think he was
ashamed to admit he was just scared. Me and Frank hit it off and we
could talk easily about things that were personnal to each other. I miss
him.
